Boston area hotels looking to ensure compliance with Boston hotel waste water discharge regulations will now need more than random sampling using wastewater sampling equipment . MWRA hotel laundry regulations present the most recent hurdle: hotels need to have a primary flow measuring device and recorder installed, as well as provide access to a 100V continuously-powered electrical outlet located near the flow measuring device. Additionally, hotels are required to provide three (3) accessible and safe sampling points, such as spigots, on the system’s discharge line. These must accommodate portable MWRA sampling equipment in accordance with 360 CMR 10.008(1). The spigots’ maximum outside diameter is 3/8 inch. The second most common requirement is to install a continuously recording pH meter at the sampling location.
